A few years ago, myself, and two of my favorite superstar software programmers started a skunk-works project to build a new music synthesizer. We wanted a way to quickly build virtual instruments and effects plugins that we, as active studio and performing musicians, wanted to use ourselves. Did the world need another music synthesizer? Some could argue no, but for us it was a resounding YES! First of all it’s what we love to do. Second, after a few decades of building synthesizers for other companies we had some cool new product ideas we wanted to try. And finally, we wanted to save the world.
Wait – what was that? You wanted to save the world?
Yes, and not only that, we think other musicians want to help make the world a better place too. It seems clear (to me anyway) that we need to do more than just wait for big government to solve today’s social, economic and environmental challenges. But how do you do this when you’re busy working, making music, maybe raising kids, and oh by the way making sure you have clean clothes on Monday?
Thus the birth of 2getheraudio.
Our mission is to bring more music into the world by empowering musicians to express themselves, and at the same time, help others in need.
Our “experiment” is to do this through a business model where customers pay what they can afford. Then, after a purchase is made we take 50% of that and give it to a cause you care about. The other 50% goes back to 2getheraudio to continue developing more cool software for you. In this way, nearly everyone can afford to get world class music creation software, make more music, and participate in the act of making the world a better place.
Will it work? We have no idea! But we’re going to give it a go. We invite all of you to join in, tell us what you think, tell us what software you want, tell us what charities you want us to contribute to, tell us what you’re doing musically to make a difference. All of it is worthwhile and 2gether we can all make an even bigger difference.
